ABORT ?n GO is a design project within the crossing boundaries of Critical Design and IndustrialDesign.The contemporary discourse on abortion is problematic, and infected by double norms. Thesenorms may cause feelings of guilt and shame in women who have an abortion. The abortion rightis built upon conflicting standpoints; one is that women have right to have an abortion, withoutbeing questioned. Second is the notion that abortion is something that should be avoided, implyingthat you?ve done something wrong if you have had an abortion.With this project and physical product I want to explore and discuss the contemporary discourseon abortion in Sweden.

Background: Abortion implies that the pregnancy is interrupted. According to the World Health Organization approximately 46 million induced abortions are carried out each year. Different methods of abortion can be used such as medical and surgical methods. The medical method especially affects a nurse?s experience of the procedure.

The treatment that women get from health care staff can influence the experience of the abortion and how women manage to coping the experience emotionally. The aim of this study was to illuminate women?s experiences in connection with an abortion. The findings show that the women?s social situation led them to the decision of abortion.

Background: The abortion issue raises many ethical, moral and religious aspectsand is therefore well debated worldwide. In the care for an abortion seeking woman, it isimportant that the nurse find a balance between her and the woman's moral opinions aboutabortion in the quest to achieve good care.Aim: The aim of this study was to describe nurses? experiences of caring for womenundergoing abortion.Methods: Literature review based on ten original articles.Results: Literature review's results highlights two key themes: nurse?s experience of anemotional roller coaster as well as difficulties and challenging experiences at work inabortion care. These two themes consists of three subthemes: to get support in the workthrough to vent thoughts and feelings, how strain and stress affects the nurse's work and as anurse learn to accept the woman?s choice.Discussions: Within abortion care nurses find it difficult dealing with theemotional roller coaster that can occur while they strive to maintain an ethical andprofessional approach.

Bakgrund: Den svenska abortlagen från 1 januari 1975, ger den gravida kvinnan rätt att själv bestämma om hon vill avbryta graviditeten. Mannens roll och behov nämns inte alls.Syfte: Att belysa kvinnors och mäns upplevelser och behov av stöd under abortprocessen.Metod: En systematisk litteraturstudie med 16 vetenskapliga artiklar analyserades och kvalitetsgranskades.Resultat: Litteraturstudien visade på abortupplevelsen som en jobbig period i livet men det resulterade även i en beslutsamhet och mognad.Diskussion: Resultatet tyder på att det är nödvändigt att få en ökad förståelse för den individuella vårdtagarens behov och förväntningar av vården och behandlingen. För att få en förståelse för mångsidigheten i abortsituationen bör man synliggöra både mannens och kvinnans delaktighet.Konklusion: Männens upplevelser av abortprocessen är föga outforskade. Sjuksköterskans roll i processen är betydelsefull och därför är det oerhört viktigt att personalen innehar kunskap och intresse att kunna bemöta dessa patienter..

Theoretical framework: The Theory of Human Caring by Jean Watson was used as a theoretical framework.Aim: The aim of this literature review was to describe the attitude of nursing patients who go through an induced abortion, from a nurse perspective.Method: This literature review is based on a sample of nine qualitative and quantitative studies, collected in the databases Cinahl, PubMed and PsycInfo. The qualities of the studies were assessed through modified templates. Analysis of the results from the studies was inspired of a content analysis.Findings: The nurses experienced their work as meaningful since they give support to the patient. The nurses felt that their work was justified when the decision to have an abortion was well thought through and they felt respect towards the patient when they were aware of the patient?s circumstances.

Bakgrund: Abort innebär att en redan etablerad graviditet avbryts. Planerad abort avser en abort som är framkallad. Livmodern utryms via läkemedelsinducerad metod eller med ett kirurgiskt ingrepp. Abort styrks av abortlagen som innebär att abort får utföras till och med graviditetsvecka 18. Efter graviditetsvecka18 krävs ett godkännande från Socialstyrelsen.

Nurses who work with in the gynecological department can come across patients seeking care for an induced abortion.Theoretical framework: The findings of the study will be discussed in relation to Peplau's nursing theory, ethical concepts and nursing concepts.Aim: The aim of the literature review was to illuminate the experiences of nurses working with induced abortion.Method: A systematic literature review with an inductive approach was chosen. The findings are based on seven qualitative and two quantitative studies. The articles were assessed through two different modified templates based on qualitative or quantitative design.Findings: Nurses and midwives experienced their work with induced abortions as emotionally stressful. However, it was highlighted that all women have the right whether to choose abortion or to proceed with the pregnancy.

Sjuksköterskans roll vid en abort är att stötta kvinnan genom hela processen.Syfte: Syftet med studien var att undersöka sjuksköterskans attityder och upplevelser av omvårdnadsarbetet med kvinnor som genomgår en abort samt vilka faktorer som påverkar dessa.Metod: Studien är en litteraturstudie med deskriptiv design. Studien är baserad på 13 vetenskapliga artiklar som har sökts fram genom databaserna Cinahl och PubMed.Resultat: Denna litteraturstudie visade inte på några entydiga attityder hos sjuksköterskan vad gäller abort. Sjuksköterskan kunde känna skuld, depression och skam.

Background: How a young woman approaches an abortion and how she handles its emotional impact is influenced by many factors. Mixed emotions about terminating a pregnancy are common to women of all backgrounds and circumstances. Aim: To illuminate young women´s experiences of abortions. Method: The study wasbased on literature from online databases and printed materials and involved the analysis of ten articles and one thesis. Result: Women contemplating abortion experience mixed emotions before, during, and after an abortion.

Bakgrund: Abort är en händelse som berör många. Orsaker till avbrytande av havandeskap kan variera. Kvinnors känslor och upplevelser efter inducerad abort är viktigt för sjukvårdspersonal att ha kunskap om.Syfte: Syftet var att belysa kvinnors känslor och upplevelser efter att ha genomgått inducerad abort.Metod: Studien genomfördes som en systematisk litteraturstudie där vetenskapliga artiklar söktes genom databaser på Internet och genom manuell sökning. Nio studier användes i litteraturstudien. Artiklarna analyserades och resultatet sammanställdes utifrån Travelbee´s begrepp Lidande och Mening.Resultat: Resultatet strukturerades i underrubrikerna Mental ohälsa, Trauma, Sorg, Tankar, Hälsa, Lättnad och Självförtroende.

Bakgrund: Abort har förekommit i alla tider och idag utförs abort lagligt på mångaställen i världen. Abort innebär att avsluta en graviditet och i norden ökar antaletaborter, trots tillgång till preventivmedel. Anledningen till att kvinnor väljer attgenomföra en abort kan vara många och huvudorsaken är en dålig eller ingen relationmed fadern. Att besluta sig att genomgå en abort är för många inte enkelt och där blirsjuksköterskans stödjande omvårdnad viktig. Därför är det av stor vikt att ta redasjuksköterskornas upplevelser av omvårdnaden i abort situationer.

Bakgrund: I Sverige har abort varit lagligt sedan 1975. Kvinnor har rätt att själva fatta abortbeslut fram till graviditetsvecka 18. Varje år görs 30 ? 40 000 aborter i Sverige. Abortupplevelsen kan vara emotionellt komplicerad för många kvinnor och varierar beroende på hur kvinnans livssituation ser ut.

The aim of this study was from the beginning to examine why a woman who has made an abortion comes back for another one. Why does the risk taking continue, despite the fact that abortion is perceived as emotionally hard? How can this be understood? This study consists of a literature review and semi-structured interviews. I wanted to interview women who had made a decision to have a repeated abortion, but it was difficult to get that kind of interviews. I then decided to interview the staff who meets women searching for an abortion to have their attitudes and experiences of women coming back for another abortion.
